Georgia Recruiting: The Hire of Daryl Jones Continues to Pay Dividends

Remember when the Georgia Bulldogs hired former high school coach Daryl Jones as their Director of On-Campus Recruiting a couple years ago? At the time it was considered a big deal because some figured it might sway the commitment of then 5-star prospect, and eventual Ole Miss Commit, Robert Nkemdiche.

However, the hire was really about Georgia streamlining the process and getting a better handle on in-state talent; the Bulldogs were missing out on far too many highly-touted prospects because they weren’t making contact early enough; that said, Jones had great connections from his time on the camp circuit, as well as great relationships with high school coaches in the state of Georgia—the hire was a no-brainer, really, and truly changed the game for the Bulldogs in regards to how they approached recruiting and evaluation.

That said, it shouldn’t be a surprise to hear that the idea behind all those sketches that drew the Bulldogs national attention was the brain child of none other than, you guessed it, Daryl Jones.

While it’s clear this bit of recruiting originality won’t be the deciding factor for a prospect, it does show just how far Georgia has come in keeping the ‘G’ at the top of the list…or at least in the conversation. And if they net a signature or two in the process, well, that’s all the better.
